Loxx Miniatur Welten Berlin

The Reichstag at night at Loxx Miniatur Welten BerlinLoxx Miniatur Welten Berlin is on the third floor of the Alexa Shopping Centre so I’m not quite sure how its existence had escaped of so long until I read a post about it on überlin but as soon as I found out about it, it went on my to do list.

Boasting 4.8km of track, more than 400 trains, 10,000 cars, 45,000 trees, 50,000 figures and 120,000 lights it is an impressive sight.  Day turns to night every 20 minutes and thunderstorms roll in periodically.  With everything built on a scale of 1:87 the Fernsehturm (TV Tower) still dominates the skyline at more than 4 metres tall.

There are faithful representations of many Berlin landmarks: the Reichstag; The Rotes Rathaus (Red City Hall); and Haus der Kulturen der Welt (House of the Cultures of the World or the Pregnant Oyster as it is known to locals) to name a few.

There are also depictions of people going abut their daily lives: a bride on the way to her wedding; people playing table tennis and volleyball; and a crowd gathered at a concert.

And you’ll also find flights of fantasy and witty scenes : the three wise monkeys on the steps of the Siegessäule; Laurel and Hardy (or Dick und Doof to the Germans) strolling through a park; and a fire drill gone wrong.

In fact the residents of this miniature world seem to be very accident prone, which all adds to the entertainment.

Loxx Miniatur Welten is captivating for adults and children alike but at €12 for adults and €7 for children up to 14 years old (a family ticket for 2 adults and up to 3 children under 15 is €30) it’s not cheap.

Loxx Miniatur Welten is always on my list of recommendations when people ask for my top Berlin tips and it has always impressed visitors when I have taken them there.  As it’s in the Alexa Shopping Centre it makes for the perfect rainy day Berlin sightseeing activity.

    You flatter us!

Glad we could introduce you to what is possibly the best attraction in Berlin. Seriously. (although we’ve just heard that Legoland has something similar…)

It’s always great to see Loxx through another person’s eyes, and these photos are awesome. Good to see the new stuff (top two photos) in action.

Keep up the good work, and keep loving Berlin!

James, thanks for taking the time to have a look and comment. And even more so, tweeting about it. It means a lot as I’ve been loving your site since I got to Berlin.

No problem! Are you on Twitter? We should be follow-buddies!

I know it’s sad but the twitter account I had was set up years ago and never really got used. I think I’m going to look into getting something sorted on there and will let you know when I do.

Loxx rocks! I’m glad you liked it. I’ve checked out your post and you have some great photos. I’ve been twice now, as I went with friends who were visiting Berlin last week, and I’ll definitely be going back. Coincidentally, I bumped into James and Zoe from uberlin, who were also revisiting!
