Photo: Still from Rainy Day by Matthias Makarinus
It’s the last day of Video Week and it’s time for something completely different – Rainy Day by Matthias Makarinus, who also created the Festival of Lights 2010 video from Day 3.
As the title suggests this is a short film produced on a rainy day in Berlin. It’s beautifully shot and edited and seems somehow appropriate for a quiet Sunday in the Hauptstadt.
This video proves that Berlin can be beautiful even when it rains – you just have to look a little bit harder to see it.
I hope that like they did for me, the videos in my Video Week have helped you to see Berlin in a new light.

Here’s a splash of colour to start the weekend of Video Week – Berlin Holi Open Air – Festival of Colours.
In July 2012 thousands gathered outside Postbahnhof in Berlin to celebrate Holi – a Hindu Festival of Colours traditionally celebrated in spring – by throwing bags of coloured powder at each other.
Berlin Holi Open Air – Festival of Colours 2013 will be taking place on 29 June 2013. Sign up for more info on the website.

It’s Friday, it’s Day 5 of Video Week and here’s a video of Stroke Urban Art Fair 2012 in Berlin, another of my highlights of the year.
I found it hard to edit my photos of the event so it’s great to be able to share more of the inspiring art that was on display.
Keep an eye out on the website and Facebook page for announcements for Stroke Urban Art Fair 2014 in Berlin.

Day 4’s offering for Video Week is An Approximation To Berlin by Transistoria, a visual Travel Guide to Germany’s capital.
The graphics in the video helpfully give links to the sights highlighted.
A minor mistake at 3:04 when Friedrichstrasse is captioned as Hauptbahnhof can be forgiven for such a beautifully shot video of Berlin.

The Festival of Lights 2012 was one of my highlights of the year and on Day 3 of my Video Week, Festival of Lights 2010 by Matthias Makarinus shows just how spectacular this annual event in Berlin is.
If you’re planning a trip to Berlin in autumn, the Festival of Lights 2013 will be lighting up the city from 10 October to 19 October 2014.

The second instalment in my Video Week is Kinetic by Klesha Production. This incredible video, shot in Berlin, employs a technique called Cinemagraph, which I’m sure I could read a lot about if I googled it but I don’t want to take the magic and mystery away.

I find that getting other people’s perspectives on Berlin, whether in the form of blog posts, newspaper articles or videos, helps me to discover new things in the city and keeps me looking at familiar spots with fresh eyes.
On the weekend I spent a couple of hours trawling Vimeo for Berlin content and I’d like to share some of the best videos I found.
I will post a different video each day this week.
I’ll kick off Video Week with Giulio Tonincelli’s impressions of the city in 2011 – a video that makes me long for summer in Berlin, though I’ll settle for today’s winter sun.
